How to Rough in a Light Switch Box, Single Pole
This video is for my new construction electricians or diyers.
Install the home run or the feed to your electrical box. Install the switchleg from the box to where your light fixture is going to go.
Always label your wires with a marker so you don’t forget what wires go where. A switchleg is the wire that takes electricity up to the light fixture. A homerun is the wire that is going back to the panel to supply power. A feed is the wire that is feeding off another homerun to supply the power.
To pass rough in inspection, you must tie all your grounds and neutrals together. Once you pass rough in and the builder gets drywall and paint up, then you go back to install the actual light switch. You don’t want to install the switch before drywall and paint because the switch may get mud or paint on it.
