How to Fish a Wire Down The Wall
This video is about fishing electrical wires. Fishing electrical wires is pretty easy if you have two people. One guy is up in the attic and one is down below. The guy in the attic will rely on the guy below to direct him where to drill the hole. The person below will tap on the ceiling so that the person above knows where to drill down. The person below should also already have his outlet or switch box cut out so that he can see the wood chips from the person drilling above. If he doesn’t see any wood chips then the person above is drilling in the wrong stud cavity.
Fishing electrical wires by yourself is a little trickier but not impossible. A lot of times there will be air ducts, exhaust fans, or can lights that you can reference when you are up in the attic, to help you find the correct top plate to drill down. Another trick is too make a tiny hole in the ceiling. Then stick a small piece of single strand wire up in the hole so that you can see it when you are up in the attic. Then you just need to drill the hole, tape the electrical wire onto a fish stick and then fish the wire down the hole. To finish up, you will pull the fish stick out of the outlet or switch hole from below.
