How to Add an Outdoor Electrical Outlet
Lots of times it is necessary to add some additional power to the outside of your house. TVE gets many calls in the winter when people start plugging in Christmas lights. Even if you get LED lights, they tend to add up, and often time the GFCI or circuit breaker will trip. In this video, the virtual electrician goes over how to install a cut-in box for an electrical outlet. Installing the electrical cut-in box in-between the groves is the correct way to do this.
That way there is less chance of water getting inside the GFCI. Drilling a pilot hole from the inside is also a good idea. This is so you know where the foundation of your house begins. If you just guess where the foundation starts and blindly cut the hole for your electrical box then you may have a siding repair if you are wrong. Caulking around the electrical box after you install it, is a good way to protect from moisture and insects.
