How to Install a Cut-in Box
If you are adding an outlet or a switch to an existing circuit, then you will need to get familiar with a cut-in box, also called a remodel box.You will want to cut straight lines in drywall so your box is level. The most important thing to remember is too prescrew the remodel box’s tabs. If you don’t, I guarantee you will strip the screw head.
Things you will need:
- Studfinder
- Keyhole saw
- Cut-in box
- Pocket level
- Romex wire
- Device and coverplate
Cut side to side first, instead of up and down. This way if you hit a stud, you can simply move your box location over slightly.
