How to Install a Dimmer Switch

The first thing you want to do is pick out the right dimmer. You need to make sure you buy the dimmer that is compatible with the type of light bulb you are dimming. You also want to make sure that you buy a three way dimmer if you can turn the light on from more than one location.

And next you want to make sure the wattage of the dimmer matches the wattage of the load you are trying to dim.
After you have all that figured out, installing the dimmer switch is actually pretty easy. Make sure the power is off before you begin. Dimmers are sensitive and if you accidentally arc out that dimmer it will damage the device. Then hook up the ground wire first, and next hook up the line and load wires.
