Why Do My Light Bulbs Keep Burning Out?

Figuring out why your lightbulbs keep going bad can be a frustrating task. If you have a fixture where you are constantly replacing the light bulb in, it most likely is a socket issue. The mistake people make is that they screw the bulb into the socket too tight. They think they are making a better connection if the lightbulb is tighter. What they are actually doing is making the electrical problem worse. By screwing in the bulb too tight you are compressing the very tab that you need to make a good connection with.

When that tab gets pushed back too far, it fails too make a good connection with the lightbulb. Every time you turn on the switch and that connection is not solid, it creates a tiny arc. This arc can cause damage to the lightbulb. Pushing this tab in the light socket back out, usually fixes this problem. This is just the first step you should take. If this doesn’t work, we need to look at the type of fixture you are using, or the type of light switch or dimmer.
